Ah, I’m familiar with The Hard Way of feeding a cat a pill, and in my experience it’s a two-man job. One to restrain the cat, and one to get the pill into the cat.

My old cat was on daily pills toward the end of his days, and I got pretty good at forcing his mouth open with one hand under his chin, my thumb and finger prying just behind his fangs, leaving the other hand free for getting the pill down his throat.

But then if he starts doing that mouth-licking motion, you get to wait until the pill comes back out and try again!

One of my most evil cats would react exactly incorrectly and I was safe. Grab her head just behind (gently!) and her claws would dig into whatever she was on for about two seconds (literally about two seconds). She would also try to yell, letting me get my fingertips just between her teeth. I could toss the pill to the back of her throat as her claws came up and get out of the way before she caught me.

Most of them claw and growl immediately or start jerking their head so you can’t pin them without hurting them. One little **** would tense and be uncooperative but wouldn’t actually fight. I had to hold her for 10+ minutes while stroking her throat. That one learned to pretend swallow. It didn’t take me more than a dozen times to learn that trick.

I loved my cats but giving them anything they didn’t want? Yikes.
