Having not played Animal Crossing in a long time I like how they’ve changed Tom Nook’s character. He doesn’t come off as some sinister landlord anymore, but instead someone a bit too enthusiastic about building a deserted island.
And because of that, I have NO idea why they still do the mortgage system in the game. In the original when he was shady it was “oh I better pay this off” but that vibe is gone. Now more than ever it’s a “pay this off to get your next home level” system so why not just treat it that way? Just have him be like “bring me this money and you get the upgrade.” The pay back whenever just seems like an unnecessary tradition.
