I started reading this comic in 2009 during a time where I was in an artistic rut. I had been drawing random things for years but could no longer think of anything to draw. It took me around two weeks to read through the comics that were put out at the time, but after I had gone through them, I had gained a focus on what to draw and more so a piece of my personality. I continued to read the comics daily over the next four years and also read through 95 gallons and got hooked on Paul and Kyra as it was called at the time.

After that, I had gotten my third concussion and lost a good deal of how I used to act and my drawing passion. I completely fell out of webcomics until a couple years later when I got caught up to when Doug had left from Star Wars spoilers. Once I noticed Andrew hadn’t updated the comic and said he might drop it, I left again.

About a week ago, I checked the site on a whim. Imagine my surprise when I find that comics had started up five months after the hiatus started. I got caught up again (luckily, I hadn’t come back on a day with Lily in the comic because that would’ve spoiled it) and then decided to go back through the whole series again, along with It’s a Dinosaur.

I just finished today, and I would like to say: Thank you, Andrew. I think you single-handily recreated a part of my personality that I lost five years ago. This comic has also made me realize how mundane my life has become and has re-inspired my artistic passion. I will continue to enjoy your comics and maybe in another ten years when I need some more picking back up, I’ll reread it again.

Thank you for the kind words. I’m glad to hear you get something valuable from the comic. I must admit, even I was in a huge artistic rut around the time of the unplanned hiatus. Luckily I was able to get back into the PLT groove by switching to digital to help the workload, going to five days a week, and making the infuriatingly incompetent Norvile into the Mayor to vent some frustrations. But such is how it goes in artwork, especially over the years. Heck, there was even a bad year for Kyra when I wasn’t updating on time because many of the readers had left.

These things come and go. Sometimes you need a break, sometimes it just needs that spark reignited. I’m glad you enjoy the comic and continue to check in on it as I continue to pump it out for many years to come. Enjoy your art and life and try to not get into as much trouble as Doug!
